Week 14

Product Sketches✎ & Design Specifications📏

What are Product Sketches ?

1. A design concept sketch is supposed to show a visual appeal of a product to users

2. A quick and easy way to deliver a brief idea to others

3. An efficient way to speed up process or developing ideas

For today, it was a very hands on experience as we were given pieces of paper and were given tasks to carry out.

Activity 1 !

For this activity

Warm up 1 : Sketching 5 straight lines

Although it sounds simple enough, it proved to be a challenge, we could not use rulers and had to have full control of our hands especially if we wanted straight lines, and here is my drawing for example below ;

straight

lines !

Warm up 2 : Sketching 5 curved lines

This one was significantly harder....

Warm up 3 : Sketching 5 circles

I decided to save some space and draw the balls on the "straight" lines I drew for the first warm up :) This one took a lot of focus but they did not turn out perfect as my lines were clearly "straight" !!

Warm up 4 : Sketching 5 ellipses

This was by far the most demanding of the warmups as it was a semi irregular shape hence i had to put my all into it !!

Activity 2 !

We were introduced to one point, as well as two point perspective sketches

In simple terms, a one point perspective drawing has one vanishing point, while a two point perspective drawing has two vanishing points. This will be showcased by Derrick's drawing!!

Firstly, for the first point perspective, we were told to draw a milk carton and this is what Derrick came up with !

By : Derrick !!

And secondly, we had to do a two perspective drawing of a book :)

Again, thank you Derrick for the showcase of amazing prowess at drawing !!

Main Activity !!

We were tasked to sketch our chemical product in either 1 or 2 point perspective. This is what we came up with !!

This is the 1-point
perspective drawing of
the main body of our
product, which is the
Steam Generating Wardrobe

This is the steam generating
mechanism that we came up
with for our product to work

What is Design Specification ?

It is a set of requirements that a product has to satisfy either by the material, design or service. It is essential as it gives a guideline on how the design can be executed.

For example,

For our group, this is what we came up with!

AND THAT SUMS UP WEEK 14 !!!
